DESCRIPTION:You’re invited to join us for our weekly Tuesday Lower Tokai Alien Pull. \nJoin the regular gang by advising us at friendsoftokaipark@gmail.com of your noble and much-appreciated intent\, don a pair of long pants\, sturdy gloves\, sturdier boots and a sensible hat\, and bring a goodly amount of water along with you – and snacks if needed. If you have a pair of loppers or poppers to spare\, your willingness to share them will greatly enhance your reputation among those of us reduced to pulling out pines with our teeth. \nThus forearmed\, venture forth with us for a two-hour session of slaying dragons\, Black Wattle and other alien invasives\, before going home feeling righteously exercised and rejuvenated in soul\, mind and body. We generally meet at one of the gates on Orpen Road and\, to preclude you standing alone at an empty gate in inclement weather\, please sign up to our mailing list or follow our Facebook Events page to receive notifications of any changes closer to the time.

DESCRIPTION:You’re invited to join us in restoring our natural heritage as we root out alien vegetation from beneath the canopy of our historic Tokai Arboretum. \nJoin our dedicated Arboretum Group (wearing sturdy clothes and gloves accompanied by a bottle of water) at the Tokai Picnic Area car park before heading off to further restore this remarkable piece of history. Tools will be made available but\, should you have poppers\, loppers\, a garden fork or chainsaw handy\, you’re most welcome to bring it/them along. \nPlease note that\, while all are most welcome\, these activities involve physical exertion and we ask that you be mindful of your abilities and limitations in this regard. Owing to the close proximity of potentially dangerous tools and herbicides\, we cannot accommodate children. \nShould you be a first-time volunteer\, please notify friendsoftokaipark@gmail.com that you will be joining us. We will then be able to contact you should inclement weather or other circumstances necessitate us changing times or cancelling individual hacks. \nThis activity falls under a permit system issued by SANParks and in accordance with the Protected Areas Act\, Biodiversity Act and other regulations related to Protected Areas and heritage sites.

SUMMARY:City Nature Challenge 2025
DESCRIPTION:Started in 2016 as a competition between Los Angeles and San Francisco\, the City Nature Challenge (CNC) has grown into an international event\, motivating people around the world to find and document wildlife in their own cities. Run by the Community Science teams at the California Academy of Sciences and the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County (NHM)\, the CNC is an annual four-day global bioblitz at the end of April\, where cities are in a collaboration-meets-friendly-competition to see what can be accomplished when we all work toward a common goal. \nCape Town is again participating in this year’s 10th City Nature Challenge 2025 from 25-28 April.
