People are special – reason enough for us to host or take part in any community event promoting the restoration of our biodiversity.

City of Cape Town SANParks Environmental Volunteer Appreciation Day – 4 December 2024

This year’s City of Cape Town (CCT) / Table Mountain National Park (TMNP) Environmental Volunteers Appreciation Day, celebrating volunteers and volunteerism in our Cape Town biodiversity conservation and environmental sectors, was held yesterday, Wednesday 4 December 2024, at Tokai and proved an outstanding success.

Following a hack and tour-survey of Upper Tokai by Dr Tony Rebelo, talks and a guided tour of the Arboretum led by Heritage convenor Dr Berta van Rooyen, participants gathered in the TMNP Tokai boardroom for a formal networking event hosted by the City and TMNP, who awarded members of the attending organisations with certificates of appreciation.

FoTP thanks the upwards of 35 organization who attended, with our special thanks going to Dr Eleanor Yeld Hutchings of the City’s Biodiversity Management Branch for organising a most informative and enjoyable event, the deputy mayor of the City Alderman Eddie Andrews, for his inspirational talk, as well as Gavin Bell of TMNP and Julia Wood of CCT.

Friends of Tokai Park Annual General Meeting (AGM) – 23 March 2023

Our first in-person AGM was successfully hosted as a hybrid event at the Cape Research Centre in Tokai on Thursday, 23 March 2023. Usually, Friends of Tokai Park ask a guest speaker to address us following our Chair's and other reports but, this year, we were given a sneak preview of our soon-to-be-released film, about which we'll publish more details in due course..

FoTP SOS IUCN Intern Training Programme 1-3 March 2022

An intensive three-day training programme at SANParks' Cape Research Centre for interns taking part in our IUCN Save Our Species and EU-backed project to restore Western Leopard Toad habitat at Tokai Park – by tackling alien vegetation and re-vegetating rare and locally missing indigenous species – affords us opportunity to meet our hosts, guests and interns.
