Great Southern Bioblitz 2026
The Great Southern BioBlitz is an opportunity for all Southern Hemisphere countries to record organisms during spring and showcase our beautiful biodiversity to the world while collecting data for science. The event is run by a network of keen citizen scientists from across the globe.
GSB 2026 will run from Friday, 27 November 2026 at 00:00 am until Monday, 30 November 2026 at 12:00 pm. Participants will then have a further 14 days to upload all their observations and to help get everything identified.
While it is fun to try and do well in terms of participants and observation numbers, please note that the GSB is primarily used for species monitoring, particularly within protected areas, stewardship sites, and other natural areas of biodiversity significance, or in gap areas that might need better protection. The emphasis is on the long-term quality and relevance of observations rather than the total number submitted. Therefore it is essential that participants heck back and respond to comments, identifications and other activity on all their observations.
